Agents in every city of the world

Roaming around the British Newspaper Archive today, I came across some adverts from the London Standard which do feel a little bizarre by today's standards!

Personals:

B*****. De W – You have been traced. Write and give E.P. an explanation, also W., or immediate proceedings will be taken. – F.D.

Green Bushes. – Dangerously ill. Mind unhinged. Shop closed: not take sufficient pay rent. Pray  help before Tuesday or will lose all. Ruined. Mother cannot help. What will become our darling.

I.V.O.R – I know there is an impassable gulf between us now. Don’t throw across a relic of happier time when you loved and trusted me. It was given on certain conditions and I can only take it from your hand. If you will not see me call for letter. Perhaps your turn has come. Be generous and spare me.

Slater's Detective Agency:

Before commencing Divorce proceedings consult Henry Slater, who will obtain all available reliable evidence. Consultations free.
Successful in every case wherein engaged in the Divorce Court for the past seven years.

Slater’s Detectives (Male and Female) for secret watchings, ascertaining where people go, what they do, the company they keep. &c. Consultations free – Henry Slater, Manager. 27, Basinghall-street, City, E.C.

Slater’s Detective Offices. - “Facile princeps stand the above-named offices for ability in conducting to a successful issue intricate matters requiring the greatest amount of discretion.” – “Municipal Review.” – Henry Slater, Manager, 27, Basinghall-street.E.C. Office hours 9.0 to 9.0.

Female detectives (Slater’s) are less suspected in secret watchings than male detectives, which fact has of late years been proved over and over again by Henry Slater, of 27, Basinghall-street.E.C.

And my favourite, from a rival agency:

Moser’s Detective Agency – Prompt, secret, reliable. Agents in every city of the world. Staff of detectives (including ladies) in every station of life. 2, Southampton-street, Strand. Telegrams. “Shadows” London.

I love that they claim to have an agent in every city of the world, quite a boast! And from every station of life! Royalty to homeless people, I guess?

Slater and Moser will definitely warrant further investigation!
